Ostara ritual this Wednesday: Gaia and UranusSent: 2008-03-15 05:00:04Hi all,The Spring Equinox is coming up fast and CUPS is holding a ritual for this festival, known to Pagans as Ostara. This is a time of growth and fertility in nature, and we're planning to celebrate with a ritual themed around the Greek creation myth of world-goddess Gaia and sky-god Uranus. In their myth, it is the combination of Gaia's fecund and all-encompassing body and the sacred life-bringing rain of Uranus which brings the universe of life into being. Our ritual will be held on the evening of Wednesday 19 March at 7.30pm. The ritual will take the Wiccan structure, and we've found ancient Homeric and Orphic hymns for Gaia and Uranus respectively. During the ritual we'll focus on the creation myth and a blessing for new growth in the coming year. We'll use a chant to focus energies; "Gaia rising, Gaia rising, Mother of all, Mother of love". After the ritual, everyone will have a chance to decorate eggs - a great and fun tradition - and we'll share in a communal feast, so please bring along a little something to share! We still need someone to take a key role in the ritual - that of calling the gods and Uranus. If you'd be interested, please send me a reply as soon as you're able, and I'll send you all the details. We'll also need 4 quarter callers to summon the elements - please let me know if you'd like to take one of these roles. Sorry again about the short notice - all of us on the committee are rushed off our feet with uni work at the moment. If you're currently working on coursework or planning revision, best of luck to you! Hope to see you on Wednesday! Blessings, Andy |
