April 18th-20th: Cornwall TripSent: 2008-03-03 05:00:04Hi folks,17 places available. Book NOW by emailing your name, email address, contact telephone number, and next of kin contact details to kimhuggens@yahoo.co .uk . Places are on a first come, first served basis, and we will consider our student members first - though if you are a non-student member and want to come, still email ASAP so that when all the applications are in I can immediately see who we can fit into the spare spaces. Applications are CLOSED on MONDAY 24th MARCH and a deposit of £10 due by FRIDAY 28th MARCH, though the sooner the better. Cornwall is full of amazing sacred sites and places of interest to Pagans, so this year we're having a weekend trip there! We'll explore some sacred wells and springs, visit one of the supposed sites of King Arthur's castle at Tintagel, learn about the history of witchcraft in the Boscastle Witchcraft Museum, and much much more! You'll find the itinerary below. Accomodation will cost £14 per night, per person, making total accomodation costs for the trip £28 each. We'll be staying in the beautiful Northshore Bude Backpackers, (http://www.northshorebude.com/), where we've had several pleasant previous stays. It has a fully stocked kitchen if you wish to self-cater, a lounge with Sky television, hot showers, outside and inside eating areas, and very friendly resident staff. We'll be staying in dorms, though the owners of the hostel try their best to keep the rooms to groups instead of putting you in with strangers. The hostel is located next to a few rather nice pubs, some takeaways, and the gorgeous Summerleaze beach, which will definitely have a visit or two from us one evening! We'll be travelling down by minibus, which will hopefully be provided by the Student's Union, so we will only be asking for a bit of money towards the cost of petrol. This should cost no more than £10 for the entire trip per person. ITINERARY: Day 1, Friday 18th April: Leave from Student's Union late afternoon, early evening. Drive to Cornwall, should take around 3 hours so bring a good book and sweeties to share. Arrive at Northshore Bude, book in, pay the rest of the accomodation fees that haven't already been covered by the deposit (see above). Dump stuff. Drive to the Morrison's close by and buy alcohol (they sell cheap mead!!), disposable BBQs and things to cook on them. Drive back, go to Summerleaze beach, light fire, and have BBQ party on beach. Day 2, Saturday 19th April: Up bright and early for breakfast and then it's off to Boscastle to explore the Witchcraft Museum (http://museumofwitchcraft.com/), the couple of Pagan shops there, and the beautiful harbour and surrounding cliffs. Grab some lunch (there's an amazing bakery which sells real Cornish pasties) or eat your packed lunch, probably on the cliffs overlooking the harbour, and then at 1pm its off to Tintagel. (http://www.tintagelweb.co.uk/Tintagel%20Castle.htm) There are loads of Pagan shops on the way through the picturesque town to the castle itself, so we'll be taking our time here. You can choose to spend your time shopping and drinking in one of the many cafes or pubs, or you can go into Tintagel castle and explore (£4.50 entrance for adults, £3.40 for students with NUS card), or you can spend the afternoon on the beautiful beach at the base of the castle. The water is lovely to swim in, there are caves (including Merlin's Cave, where Merlin was supposed to have lived) and plenty of rock pools, and the obligatory ice cream shop and cafe. On the way back, if there are any smaller sites we'll pop over to them (this is still to be planned), but otherwise its back to the hostel for dinner - whether this is cooking in the hostel, ordering Chinese, or heading to one of the pubs. We'll also probably have a couple of drinks in the pub, and entertain ourselves that evening. Day 3, Sunday 20 April: Again, leave bright and early for a guided tour around some sacred wells and springs, (including St. Cleer's Well, St. Anne's Well, St. Non's Well, St. Clether's Well). Possibly visit Trevethy Quoit, have some lunch (you'll need a packed lunch for this day) and then drive to Bossiney Cove, Rocky Valley and St. Nectan's Glen (http://www.stnectan.currantbun.com/stnectan.htm). Rocky Valley is home to lovely walks, an abandoned hermitage and monastery, and the mysterious labyrinth carvings (http://www.labyrinthos.net/rockyvalley.htm). Finally, return home. NOTE: This day is subject to change as we further plan the trip. It is a possibility of having a trip to the Eden Project in the morning (£6 entry for students), or a ritual at St Nectan's Glen utilizing the waterfall. Trip attendees will be notified of changes by email as soon as they are made. Throughout the trip, attendees will receive booklets explaining some of the history, mystery, and lore surrounding the sites we are visiting. If you are interested in attending, email kimhuggens@yahoo.co.uk ASAP but before March 24th. A deposit of £10 is due ASAP after booking - the sooner the better because the hostel requires it and we don't want to muck them around too much! You will be told how to pay or who to make cheques payable to via email in response to your application. As stated above, there are only 17 places on this trip, so please book early to avoid disappointment. Hope to see you on the trip! Blessings, Kim Huggens |
