Thursday 31st January: Introduction to Magic and Spellcraft 3 - "The Dark Side"Sent: 2008-01-24 15:40:03
Hi folks,
On Thursday, January 31st at 5.45 pm in the Nelson Mandela Room on the 4th floor of the Student's Union, we will be holding the final workshop in the series of three originally held in the Autumn term. In this workshop we'll be exploring the "Dark Side" of magic - all the stuff that can look scary at first, the practices which look weird to outsiders, and of course the questions surrounding cursing and binding.
Not all of our intentions are snow white and pure, and sometimes we are faced with morally grey areas in which to function and make our choices. Sadly, we may also find ourselves in situations which require drastic action, and it is in situations like these that we may resort to "black magic". This final session of three workshops introducing Magic and Spellcraft will look at the definition of "black magic" and some of the misconceptions surrounding it, as well as the ethics of using magic to control, bind, and harm another person. Finally, we'll explore some practical techniques (as well as a brief look at their history) of cursing, binding an enemy, breaking up a relationship, and others. We'll also look at necromancy, the concept of sacrifice and how it isn't what the horror movies would have you believe, and other interesting techniques used in antiquity.
After the workshop we'll head to the Mackintosh pub for our regular social event.
Hopefully see you there!
Blessings,
Kim Huggens
